Our mission is to provide an exceptional racing experience for all runners, promoting a love for running, and fostering community engagement.
The Idaho Falls Marathon has been an annual event for the past 19 years, and we are thrilled to announce that it is now under new ownership. This year, local race director and retired Marine veteran, Chris Carney has taken the reins and will be making some exciting changes with a new local race staff of experienced runners. The 2025 Idaho Falls Marathon will continue to grow and provide a lasting experience for runners, with a flat and fast course, a post-race party, and a emphasis on community engagement. We look forward to seeing you at the starting line!
*Due to high demand, we cannot guarantee current year medals for new registrants. Participants registering from this point forward will receive a shirt, but may be awarded a medal from last year's event. Thank you for your understanding and support!

Marathon History
The marathon boasts a rich and fascinating history that spans over 2,500 years, making it one of the world’s most iconic endurance events. The origins of the marathon can be traced back to ancient Greece, where the legendary run from the town of Marathon to Athens was undertaken to deliver the news of a Greek victory over the Persians. This historic feat laid the foundation for what would become a celebrated athletic tradition.
Fast forward to 1896, the modern Olympic marathon was introduced, capturing the imagination of athletes and spectators alike. Since then, the marathon has grown in popularity, becoming a symbol of perseverance and human spirit. The standard marathon distance of 42.195 km (26.2 miles) was established in 1921, and it has remained the benchmark for marathon courses around the globe.
Today, marathons are held in cities worldwide, from the bustling streets of New York City to the historic routes of the Boston Marathon, the world’s oldest annual marathon. Each event brings together runners from all walks of life, united by their passion for the sport and their determination to conquer the marathon challenge.
